Counterfeit products are rife on the streets of China, from faux Air Jordans to entire fake Apple stores, but this is a new one. According to the International Business Times, Chinese vendors are now cracking open walnuts, removing the meat, refilling the walnut shells with concrete, and reselling them.

The price of walnuts has skyrocketed in China in the past decade, with prices almost ten times higher in in 2012 than in 2002. Walnuts are a major part of the Chinese diet, and the country’s appetite has seen China become the top foreign buyer of American-grown walnuts.
