Things We Love: Covers from The Country Gentleman, taken from the top-notch MagazineArt.org. The magazine, which began in 1831, ran until 1955 when it was merged with Farm Journal. The covers above are from the magazine’s relaunch after its sale in 1911 to Cyrus H. K. Curtis, the magazine publisher behind such titles as Ladies Home Journal and the Saturday Evening Post. Famed Post illustrator Norman Rockwell also did work for The Country Gentleman — Rockwell did the Santa cover above. MagazineArt.org has even more covers, and there’s a brisk business in The Country Gentleman covers on eBay for anyone who has a hankering to put one up on their wall.
